Movies with elves
Elves have allowed us to escape into fantasy lands that are buried deep within our souls.
Movies with elves have always delved into the minds of us all; bringing to the surface a desire to escape the norm and venture into a world of magical elven happenings. From the tiniest, self-sacrificing Tinkerbell, in J.M. Barrie’s, Peter Pan, to the pillowcase attired Dobby, in J.K. Rowlings, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, elves, for the most part, are chaos-causing, yet lovable characters.
What’s Christmas without an elf or two?
- The Santa Clause movies. Efficient and loyal
Bernard and Curtis, show that the big man himself, can’t go without the ever present organization of his head elves. - Santa Claus: The Movie (1985), tells the story of how St. Nick became Santa Claus. Welcomed to the North Pole by head elf, Patch, and given the secrets only given to the true Santa by the ancient elf, this picture shows the wisdom and character an elf must possess.
- Elf, a jovial and entertaining story about how a human man, raised by elves at the North Pole, goes to New York in search of his human father. The movie follows his bumbling exploits and proves that no matter who you are, an elf’s heart and soul can touch us all.
If only you believe
- The elves in JRR Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings are immortal and can only die in battle, protecting something or someone they deem important. First born by the Creator (humans were second born), they love nature and live in the forest. And every elf knows, never trust a dwarf.
- Dobby, the house-elf, in Harry Potter: Chamber of Secrets, is an independent little fellow. Most house-elves are proud to be slaves to their masters. Not Dobby. He wants his independence, and with a little conniving and help from Harry Potter, the green-eyed little creature just might get his wish.
- Legend, 1985, stars Tom Cruise as Jack, the forest boy, along with his elven friends, headed by Honeythorn Gump. This band of magical imps must stop the Lord of Darkness from destroying the final unicorn, and marrying Jack’s beloved.
- Step into Never Never Land, where boys never grow up, pirates are set on stopping them, and crocodiles eat clocks. J.M. Barrie’s, Peter Pan, showcases a flitting little elf, Tinkerbell, who helps Peter find a mother by visiting the Darling children, and taking them back to his home.
